Streeterville

A residential neighborhood set between the bright lights of the Magnificent Mile and Navy Pier, Streeterville has its own people-drawing power.

Navy Pier, the city’s busiest attraction, offers indoor/outdoor activities, museums, theatres, restaurants, boat cruises, special events and gift shops for all ages. Stop into The Navy Pier Store for local souvenirs, or the only Chicago location of Build-A-Bear Workshop to create a new plush animal, ready to be clothed from head to toe in the trendiest outfit or as a favorite themed character.

It's hard to ignore the temptations that lie along the way to the Pier, especially the businesses concentrated along Illinois Street.

Fox & Obel, a local favorite, is a European-inspired gourmet market and cafe, with an extensive selection of organic produce, fresh baked breads and desserts, cheese, meat and seafood selections, and upscale prepared and packaged foods. Next door to Fox & Obel, wine connoisseurs can check out the selections at Kensington Fine & Rare Wines.

Have a free Friday night? Take in an art exhibit at the River East Art Center, which houses five local galleries,

For grocery basics, stop into the newly opened Dominick's store, Treasure Island, or UnCork-It which offers convenience foods, alcoholic beverages and cigars.

And if you're looking to bring a gift to a friend at nearby Northwestern Hospital, pick up a plant or floral bouquet at City Scents, or a must-read from Barbara's BestSellers.
