Akira

A Locally-Owned Fashion-Forward Favorite

Locally-owned Akira exploded onto the Wicker Park/Bucktown scene in 2002 with hip, affordable women's styles.

Instant success led to expansion into men’s clothing, shoes and accessories, a Lincoln Park women’s boutique and now, just four years later, Akira bursts into the big time with location number six on State Street selling shoes for men and women.

Affordable prices, distinctive, trend-setting pieces and a regular inflow of new merchandise are main reasons for the popularity of Akira stores.

Merchandise usually ranges between $18-$250 and each store receives new merchandise at least twice a week. Which means your latest great buy will probably have gone before anyone else can snatch it up.

The clothing boutiques offer the most stylish picks of designer denims, the hottest must-haves, from Rock and Republics to People’s Liberation. Denim prices are the same as or lower than what you’ll find at luxury department stores.

Co-owner Erikka Wang credits lower markups for the competitive prices. The owners wish to bring the fashions of the world to Chicago, and in her words, "people of all ages and looks don’t have to break their wallets to be fashionable".

Akira hosts a variety of fashion shows and parties for their customers, usually at the hottest Chicago clubs. Through special events, frequent shopping incentives, and a helpful staff to assist you in coordinating that perfect outfit, Akira owners work hard to cultivate relationships with their customers.

A loyal client base is their reward.
