Fall 2006

Whether you are expecting a child, or have been charged with finding that perfect gift for someone else’s bundle of joy, shopping for any baby on the way can be a daunting task.

As a first-time mom of a two-year old, I can attest to the insanity surrounding trying to determine what is fact and what is fiction when it comes to all the gadgets and do-dads out there for baby. What bottles are best? Is there really such a thing as leak-free diapers? What is the deal with that $900 Bugaboo Stroller?

Let’s face it, superstores like Target and Babies ‘R Us have cornered the market on carrying all your baby basics. However, when it comes to buying the coolest, must-have gifts for every new mom, dad and baby, or being the best gift-giver at the party, we have a few good ideas from sampling over 300 moms with toddlers.

Baby Bliss Gripe Water

This is an improved version of the all-natural European gripe water that has soothed babies for generations. It is well-known for easing the discomforts of colic, gas, hiccups, teething and stomach pain. Baby Bliss also makes a morning sickness remedy that works like a charm.

Preggie Pops

Anything that will help morning sickness is great. And if it looks and tastes like candy – well, all the better. These specially formulated lollipops not only ease nausea, but also relieve dry mouth, provide energy, and come on the recommendation of healthcare providers.  They are all-natural and tasty!

Rockin’ Booties

Getting baby off on the right foot? It all starts with great shoes, and these are both cute and comfy. Psycho Baby carries several different versions of this great leather slipper by Starchild in sizes 0-18 months.

Modern Baby Lounger

No one wants their once-hip home to be taken over by baby furniture awash in primary colors and teddy bears, but it's almost impossible to avoid with a new baby in the house. This modern baby lounger by Oeuf scores points for being as attractive as it is well-made.

Where to buy:

Psycho Baby

The Sleep Sheep
Ultra-cute and practical, the Sleep Sheep audio pacifier lulls baby to sleep – and when baby sleeps, the whole family sleeps. With a sound box safely fastened inside, the cuddly Sleep Sheep plays the calming sounds of gentle rain, ocean surf, whale songs, or the reassuring rhythm of a mother's heartbeat.

Parents and physicians often recommend sound machines to soothe colicky babies and help light sleepers sleep through the night. This one hooks safely to any crib and travels well. It could become a toddler's favorite stuffed animal over the years. And definitely will be a favorite gift at the shower!

Handle With Care
