Eclectica

Striking Style in Lincoln Park

Armitage Avenue in Lincoln Park is not necessarily known for its innovative fashion; nevertheless, Chicago designer Vika Brown is aiming to alter that perception with her new boutique, Eclectica.

Home to fellow Chicago designers Orlando Espinoza, Diego Rocha and Julie Schmidt (Juliet Jewelry), along with her eponymous label, this welcoming boutique has quickly become the talk of the town.

Although Eclectica is the new kid on the block (it opened in September 2007), Vika has already gained a strong local following thanks to the high quality and superb craftsmanship of her merchandise.

Of course, one would expect nothing less from someone with such exquisite taste – considered one of Chicago’s premier designers since 2002, she received Macy’s 2006 Distinction in Design Award for her couture-quality work.

Stepping into Eclectica is akin to discovering a hidden treasure, since it’s located on the lower level of 1006 West Armitage and the glorious array of gorgeous, distinctive items inside is not immediately apparent from the street. However, once you’ve passed through the door, there’s no mistaking that you’ve found a real jewel – and you’ll know that you won’t find these stunning clothes and accessories anywhere else.

Some of the current items that you’ll find in the boutique are sleek and sexy dresses, tops, and pencil skirts from Orlando Espinoza, chic handbags crafted from exotic skins by Diego Rocha, and luscious ruffled satin blouses and feminine frocks from Vika’s own line. To round out her selection, she also carries fine jewelry from Chicago designer Julie Schmidt (Juliet Jewelry), and Manon von Gerkan, a label based in New York, and intriguing illuminated pillows by Project Runway contestant Steven Rosengard.

What sets Eclectica apart from other high-end boutiques is that all merchandise is incredibly harmonious – the jewelry, clothing, and bags can all work together; moreover, everything is timeless and simple enough to mix and match with clothing you already own. In addition, since the majority of the pieces come from local designers, custom-tailoring is a definite possibility and can be done on the premises.

Another reason that Eclectica is exceptional is its warm, friendly atmosphere. Vika or her husband are more than likely to greet you personally, offer you snacks and drinks, and let you take your time perusing the racks and selecting the perfect addition to your wardrobe.

While other boutiques may claim to offer personalized service, this is one of the few that delivers on the promise.
