Make a Style Statement at Pump Shoes & Accessories
Located between artsy Wicker Park and the bohemian enclave of Ukrainian Village, Pump Shoes & Accessories has an eclectic vibe and a wide array of colorful shoes, bags, and jewelry.
Described as a “shoe fanatic’s dream” by owner Maureen Longua, this accessories-only boutique focuses on unique, stylish shoes, bags, and belts that definitely offer shoppers a bang for their fashion buck.
“My customers are girly-girls who want adorable pieces but don’t want to spend a fortune on them,” she says. “But I look for quality as well as value in my merchandise.”
Pump is widely known for its chic and colorful accessories, and especially for its wide variety of eye-catching shoes. Although Maureen stocks a fair amount of big-name brands like Miss Sixty, Michael Kors, and Betsey Johnson, she selects the boldest and most interesting styles available – the kinds of shoes that will make their wearer stand out from the crowd.
She also loves to seek out hard-to-find, high quality labels from Spain and South America, such as Carlos Molina. However, Pump is exceptional for reasons other its large stock of highly covetable footwear – Maureen and her staff are also known for providing fabulous and friendly customer service. They also play host to on-site cocktail parties, and regular end-of-season sales where almost everything in the store is marked down.
Unlike many exclusive little shops, Pump’s prices are more than reasonable. Most shoes are in the $50-$150 range, and other accessory options include belts and bags by Inherited (they’re handmade from vintage fabrics and no two are alike), and piles of fun costume jewelry, including chunky cocktail rings and hoop earrings priced around $20-$50. Silk headbands in a wide array of colors and prints round out the boutique’s unique accessory selection – a steal at only $16.
Some current trendy favorites at Pump include a pair of turquoise Betsey Johnson peep-toe pumps with embroidered flowers, and a pair of towering bronze Vince Camuto wedges with an interesting cut-out design. A pair of strappy bronze and pewter Miss Sixty evening sandals is a bit more traditional but still fabulous (metallics are quickly becoming a modern classic anyways), and Maureen also stocks quite a few flat sandals and low wedges (we liked the navy and cream striped pair by Michael Kors) as alternatives to high heels.
Maureen tries to make sure that there is something for everything, from glamorous divas who are never seen without their stilettos to women who want comfortable yet stylish everyday shoes.
